AC 2-Tier sleeper (2A) – Many express trains have a couple of this class coaches. Luxurious than the 3A. At a cost of about 48 USD you can travel about 3000 kilometer eg.Trivandrum to New Delhi in this class.

You can find the well to do Indian class in these coaches. This is a good asylum for those who cant join the crowd or expect luxury than economy. All the facilities available in SL is available here also. Bedroll available inside the coach free of cost. Like in any other AC coaches here again you can't enjoy the outside view due to the dark window glass. Tell that coach attendant to reduce the CHILL if you feel that you are inside a freezer with berths & wheels!

First Class AC (1A) - The highest luxury class in the regular routes.

Cost comparable with economy class airfare. For about 150 USD you can travel from Trivandrum to Delhi. A number of important long distance trains have these coaches. The elite class and business executives travel by 1A.

Once I’ve met a businessman in this and he said he is afraid of flying and therefore travel only by train. You can travel in this train for days without even having eye contact with the co passenger. People tend to mind their own business (the usual stuff of newspaper reading, staring at the laptop screen, acting sleepy etc). This peculiar difference I’ve noticed almost in all of my train journeys.

The personal interaction barrier increases with increase in luxury! Somebody tried to explain that this is due to the physical distances in the luxury classes. In a Sleeper class you are more physically close to the co passengers and this increases the drive to interact with others.

1st AC compartments are more deluxe. The major difference is between the comfort of the beds and the decor. Also, in second AC compartments there are no cabins, hence the privacy factor lowers.

1st AC is better than 2AC, quite a lot better, but it's not better value for money. The biggest problem with 1AC is the cold, the compartments/coupes can be freezing as the air con is often turned on full, then you walk out of the cold 1AC into the warm coridoor, then back to the cold, the temperature difference is too much and not healthy.

first class you pay more then Air fare. They serve food round the clock. They give you proper sheets and blankets.

You have more freedom. one said you will have a ball.

2nd class is 1/3 less then air fare. But has little amenities.

3 rd classs is affordable I will not recoment Travelling 3rd class you will get lesser amenities i have not traveled.

but I heard First class AC travel is very good.

Don't worry about go for ot have a ball. you will need advance reservations. Seat get filled. to see India take first class or second class. Don't go below that. Forniger travel under foreign Quota you have to show USA or Foreign Passport.

Without Passport they will not make reservations for you.

to cancel the reservations you have to give them 72 hours.

But you will get back money in Rupees only. They accept Foreign Currency. check with them the cancellation policy.

i would bring my water food with me in case you have problem. but most likely you will have fun. it was noisy in a Passenger class when i Traveled for 17 hours. You really want first class travel. You will say yes i am happy for the money i paid. major cities where you can buy tickets with US dollars/ or foreign currency. i want to see india.

First class travel is still cheaper or equal to air fare.

Jet airways domestic travel is not cheap but if you shop around bargains are available.

I will check both train and air fare to keep both option available. By air you can make it by 2 to 3 hours by train long distance can take 12 to 16 hours on Rajdhani and Shatabdi.

delhi Bombay is quite a ride.

Air deccan go air spice jet accepts 20 kg checked in baggage fare is very cheap Delhi to Bombay $65 , 8 kg carry on allowed. i think advance reservations i will say upto 1 week in advance you can get cheaper fare.

go to www.yatra.com there you can check theprices.

if you can afford travel First class. lots of food is available round the clock. Properly Air Conditioned limited people. your paspport is verified when tickets being issued.

I will recomend bring along ear plugs in case it should be very well maintained. i will bring all my medications if you have any illness. if I am traveling abroad i will be fully equiped. I heard First class is really good and comfortable little expansive but worth it you can see India.

All three classes offer the same levels of air conditioning. The 1st AC is carpeted and is available in 2 berth or 4 berth areas. There is generally a sink in the area. This is a very expensive class and provides bedding. The 2nd AC has 2 bays on one side and 4 on the other side of the Aisle. There is a curtain that gives you some privacy. It is relatively cleaner and more expensive than the 3rd class AC. There is an attendant who distributes blankets and pillow. The 3rd AC has 2 bays on one side and 6 on the other side of the aisle. There are no curtains but you do get blankets and pillow.
