To save money! The less over all weight they carry the less fuel they use. Add up all the 20lbs from every passenger on board...thats a lot of extra weight they are saving on. This is a way to keep ticket prices low and still make money. People are more reluctant to fly at the moment and low ticket prices are encouraging people back, low cost airlines have always had a 50ld limit to help keep their prices down and now the big boys are joining in. If you ask the airlines they will tell you that it is for health and safety reasons, to help the baggage handlers etc which may also be the reason!

According to the airline unions, there is a high rate of worker injuries among baggage workers, which is part of the reason the top weight was lowered. Many airlines have also reduced by half the number of workers used to load planes, further aggravating this problem.

All airlines have observed the "a million unfastened checked bag" coverage aside from yank. they are charging $15 for the 1st checked bag and $25 for the 2d. I think of that different airlines will shop on with experience. there is likewise a 50lb weight cut back. If it is going over 50, there is an $eighty fee. We went over our weight by way of 2 kilos and had to stuff issues into our carry-on on the final minute. i opt to propose weighing the suitcase at abode on the dimensions.
