I am 24. An Indian - came to Australia few years ago. Am a Permanent Resident of Australia now, working in a profession that I was studying. According to everyone around me, I am very lucky and have everything (for someone at my level {beginner} in Australia). I try to accept that and be happy with whatever I have got, but my heart is always wishing to go back to India. I am not sure whether my life will be better in India or in Australia. I don’t know what is missing and why I think that I will be happy once I am back home in India. Need some guidance to make a decision.

I was in the exact same position as you. I was terribly confused between India and Canada for more than 4 years... I always used to think that India is my real home and felt kind of empty from within when I lived in Canada. Then, a few months ago, I went to India to visit family, and all my confusion was sorted out! Personally, even though I love my country dearly my realization was that there's way too much corruption in India because of which life is just so much more complicated there. So, I reached this conclusion: I'm going to settle down in Canada but I won't ever forget my roots. I'll continue going to visit India once in a couple of years and just try to mix with other Indians who are in my shoes!

Dude, my suggestion to you is that you go back to India, stay there for a month or two. Sure, you get to be with family and get great food, but you would be much more safe and frustration-free in India. But if you're equally frustrated living in Australia (because you're always thinking about India), then India is the place for you. So, basically, you have to decide. The way to do this is go to India, stay there, and then decide!

The thing, though, is that don't go and tour around the country. Go and stay like a normal person, experience the traffic rush hour, the crowded public transit buses, the random weirdos (you-know-who!!) along with the yummy food and the general awesomeness of the place.

Good luck buddy! :)

It depends what you really want.

pros of India:

no racism against indians

second fastest growing economy in the world

real estate values have gone sky high especially bangalore and mumbai and continue to do so

all the family support you could ever need is in india..you will never really feel lonely

cons of India:

lacking infrastructure..black outs happen daily even in the most developed cities

poverty in many places..

auto rikshah drivers ripping you off

corrupt government officials and police officers..many daily tasks such as using banks are a hassle unless you bribe someone..you do not have that as much in australia

as for australia

yes it is much more developed and you can live a much more comfortable financially and feel safer..but yeah all the family ties are not there..i suggest you visit India often as it is not too far away from Australia
