My parents are aged and cannot climb up onto upper berth. I have booked first AC tickets for them. Though the tickets are confirmed, the coach/seat no. is not given. The rules on the Indian Railways site says that seat, coupe no. on first class AC are allotted at the time of chart preparation. However they cannot risk the journey if they are not sure that they would be allotted lower berths. How can I ensure that they get lower berths? will be much obliged for helpful inputs.

If your parent are senior citizen then they will certainly get Lower berths. During chart preparation of AC 1st class the reservation clerk keeps in mind the necessity and age of passengers.

Generally First AC tickets will get confirmed at the time of chart preparation only.

If you have mentioned their age correctly, then the system will allot lower berth only as per availability.

In case if you get upper berth, TTE will certainly help you.

I have booked two tickets to my parents in I AC in July 2015by Sampark kranthi Express leaving bangalore on the 14th Oct.2015 to Nizamudin from Yesvanthpur and requested for lower berths as both are senior citizens(74 and 65).There were 8 seats available at the time of booking online.I am confident as per Railways rules they defiinetly get lower berths .at the time of preparing the chart. Kindly confirm. dr.ramya

Hi All,

What are we talking about? We are Indians and with adjusting mind, kind enough to leave lower berth to senior citizens. You just ask anybody, they will adjust.

please tick a option of bearth preference when u book tickets. book the tickets at any proper railway reservation counter and request them u need only lower berths and they will provide you subject to availability. to avoid inconvience you need to book tickets 3 months in advance so that u will get for sure.

You can fill your preferences while booking the ticket or you can book that ticket from some online travel portal like yatra.com whose quality search engine will let you book your tickets with ease...
